I am a voracious reader and I love to immerse myself in the pages of a good fantasy/sci-fi book. After many years of happily reading and reviewing books on Goodreads I deciding if I want to jump ship due to the mass changes from it's new owners.
Everywhere I look I see this book being compared to Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files. The only similarity I felt there was is the main character is a wiseass PI with magic in a Urban Fantasy setting. Harry mostly wins his battles on pure luck with some talent thrown in, while John Taylor seems to have finesse in his fighting abilities (even if he is overpowered). This book was so much darker and less comical than Butcher's series. I would compare more to a Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere than The Dresden Files. With that being said I did enjoy it. It's cheesy Sam Spade-like mystery that brings is great elements of Sci-Fi Fantasy. A good romp and I look forward to listening to the remainder of the series
